Mathew 5:39—-“But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.”
Turn Your Cheek, Chick Pea Salad will make you want to turn the other also! Turn it for another serving I hope!
I did not understand until today, that this verse is referring to a verbal insult and not a physical one. It’s very difficult for many of us to respond kindly to hurtful speech. Responses requiring a supernatural kindness from a good amount of light! The kind of light required comes only from Jesus.
The tender chick pea legume requires a good amount of light also. And heat. Moreover, growing close together supports the plant’s growth.
Sounds a lot like us Christians. We can withstand the insults of the world as we stand in solidarity with one another. Turning those cheeky insults into opportunities of grace. Biting those quick retorts, is only possible with fresh reminders in mind from God’s word.
I’m taking those fresh reminders in hand and enjoying the purported benefits of this cheeky legume today. Since it acts as a hormone balancer and fiber packed source of protein, I’ll need that for quick thinking, tongue biting opportunities.
What God put in the Garden is good!
Turn Your Cheek, Chick Pea Salad
1 Can Chick Peas
2 Tablespoons Finely Chopped Onion
1/4 Cup Finely Chopped Celery
2 Tablespoons Finely Chopped Pecans
1/4 Cup Chopped Red Grapes
1/2 Cup Tzatziki Sauce
Open the can of chick peas, empty into a bowl and microwave 3 minutes. Puree 1/2 of the chick peas in a food processor and leave the rest whole. This holds the salad together better. Set it aside to cool. Chop your onions, celery, and grapes. Add them to the bowl of mashed and whole chick peas. Combine the chick pea mixture with the Tzatziki sauce and pecans. Chill until ready to serve.
Pray for those who hurt you today as you turn the other cheek!
